What is a Superfood

Superfoods (certain seeds, sprouted grasses, berries...) are special nutritionally rich foods that offer tremendous dietary and healing potential.  Superfoods are a powerful source of clean protein, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants, good fats and oils, essential amino and fatty acids.  They promote nutritional excellence, health and wellbeing, beauty, sustainable agriculture, and can transform individual diet and lifestyle, leading to a revitalized humanity and planet.

Why should you eat Superfoods

People everywhere are becoming more and more aware of the fact that some foods are inherently detrimental to their health – especially those that are heavily processed, packed with artificial flavours or colours, laden with saturated fats, deep-fried or largely comprised of refined carbohydrates.  With such foods becoming recognised as the villains of the food chain, it stands to reason that others are gaining a reputation as nutritional superheroes!

One of the criteria for being a Superfood is delivering a huge nutritional hit in a small serve.  To qualify as a Superfood though, it’s not enough to be a potent source of one particular group of nutrients.  Other nutritional benefits should be present as well – such as being low in calories, providing valuable fibre, vitamins and minerals, and being a good source of healthy fats.  They are:
-high in a spectrum of nutrients
-easily absorbed and used by the body
-prevention and elimination of disease
-whole foods from the natural state

Obviously, it’s for the amazing health benefits that they offer.  These foods are rich in nutrients and work wonders in keeping your mind and body healthy.  But, this is not all.  Once you start consuming superfoods on a regular basis, you will start noticing the difference in not just how you feel, but also how you look.
Eating these foods regularly makes your body healthier, helps you flush out toxins more frequently and leaves you with a healthy glow.  It also helps you maintain your weight and you can continue to remain healthy without having to take annoying vitamins or mineral tablets.  Superfoods in fact contain all the right nutrients in the right proportions. However, the best part is that these foods are clean and pesticide free, organic sources of these nutrients, so in effect they act faster and work better.

We are all challenged in our lives and environment, Superfoods provide the nutrition we require and simply done as a small addition to your diet; best of all a little goes a long way.  Another important aspect of Superfoods is they are organic, a turnaround from our not so conscious agriculture practices and processing of foods.
